The Philippines is a strong contender for the title of “Banana Capital of the World,”
given the innumerable banana plantations scattered across Mindanao. Tapping
this prodigious source, Celebes established its first banana chips plant in 1986. A
thriving demand saw the rise of the second plant in General Santos City in 1988
and a third plant in 1990, in Tagum City. The three plants have a current output of
90 x 20-feet containers per month.
With the world’s growing fascination for tropical food, including snacks, Celebes
sees a consistent growth in the demand for its banana chips. The rise in sales is
